What types of content can I upload?
Filmy is designed for independent creators. You can publish: feature films, short films, documentaries, student films, web series, video essays, creative projects, independent productions, and other original video content. You must own the rights to everything you upload or have the legal authority to distribute it.
Do I keep the rights to my film?
Yes. You retain full ownership and copyright of your film. Filmy receives only the limited license necessary to host, stream, promote, and process purchases through the platform.
How do I make money?
You choose the price for your film. When a viewer purchases access, payment is securely processed through Stripe. Your share is transferred through Stripe Connect according to the platform's revenue model.
Do I need a distributor?
No. Filmy was built for filmmakers who want to reach audiences directly without relying on traditional distributors, broadcasters, or streaming services. If you have an audience-or believe you can build one-you can start selling your film immediately.
How do viewers watch my film?
After purchasing, the viewer receives a unique access code linked to their email address. The code remains valid for 24 hours from issuance and may be used up to 10 times during that window.
Can I choose my own price?
Yes. Every filmmaker decides how much to charge for access to their film.
Is Filmy exclusive?
No. Publishing your film on Filmy does not prevent you from distributing it elsewhere unless you have agreed to exclusivity with another party.
Why Filmy?
Not every great film gets a streaming deal. Many independent filmmakers already have an audience through social media, festivals, communities, newsletters, or personal networks. Filmy gives you a simple way to turn that audience into paying viewers-while keeping control of your work and your rights.
Are payouts immediate?
Payment is processed and your share is transferred to your connected Stripe account right away. The actual arrival in your bank account then follows Stripe's standard payout schedule (typically a few business days, longer for newly connected accounts).
Who handles payments?
Payments are handled entirely by our payment provider, Stripe.
What's the fee?
Filmy takes 10% of your film's price for our services and the infrastructure we run. Stripe, our payment provider, takes its own processing fee on top (currently around 3.5% + €/$0.25 per transaction, though Stripe's exact rate can vary by region and card type).
Formula:
Net payout = Film price - (Film price × 0.10) - (Film price × 0.035 + 0.25)
